Frequently Asked Questions

English Language Copy Editing

What file types do you accept?
We accept Microsoft Word (.docx) documents to allow use of the Track Changes feature, allowing you to review and accept all changes we make to your document.
What qualifications do your copy editors have?
eContent Pro International copy editors are all native English speakers and meet rigorous selection standards and quality control checks. Our copy editors have copy editing certifications as well as master’s or doctorate degrees. Our editors have editorial experience across all subject areas and have completed a wide range of studies. Learn more about them on our Copy Editors page.
Can I choose my copy editor?
We will always strive to match your document with the copy editor who is best suited for its contents. If there is an editor who you feel would be best suited for your document or if you were particularly happy with the work completed by a specific editor on a previously completed document, then you can request to have that editor work on your next document. You may mention their name in the "Comments" field of the submission process (subject to availability).
Can I contact my copy editor directly?
Many of our expert copy editors are members of different editorial boards of various prestigious journals and in order to avoid any conflict of interest, their identity cannot always be shared. If you have questions for your copy editor, please contact customerservice@econtentpro.com and our customer service representation can serve as a liaison between yourself and your copy editor.
What types of documents do you edit?
We edit virtually every type of document, including research papers, journal articles, books (drafts, fiction, non-fiction, and reference books included), book chapters, essays, proposals, dissertations, theses, and cover letters.
Do you offer samples of your work?
Yes, you can find samples of our work on our Samples page.
How quickly will you edit my document?
Most documents will take a maximum of 6 business days to complete (documents under 10,000 words). Expedited delivery options are available with an additional fee. Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information for the completion time of a specific document.
Do you provide documentation certifying that my document has been professionally copy edited?
Yes. With each completed job we offer an editorial certificate certifying that the manuscript has been professionally edited for correct English language usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling by a qualified native English-speaking editor.
How will my document be returned to me?
When copy editing is finished, you will receive an email notification containing a link to download your final, copy edited document. The document will be a Microsoft Word file with Track Changes enabled, allowing you to review and accept all changes we make to your document.
My work is similar to other previously published work. Can you check my document for instances of potential plagiarism and/or revise, rewrite, or paraphrase my work?
As a service provider to the publishing industry, we take the issue of plagiarism very seriously. As such, our editors will not insert citations, conduct any plagiarism checks, paraphrase, revise, or rewrite verbatim material that has been previously published. They will however, correct any improperly styled citations that are not in the appropriate style required by the publisher (e.g. APA, MLA, etc.). It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that all previously published work in their document has been properly cited and that the document has been run through plagiarism software prior to submitting it for copy editing. If you would like your document to be checked for instances of plagiarism, eContent Pro International offers a separate plagiarism checking service.
What should I do once my document is returned to me from the editor?
You will receive a notification once your file is complete and ready for your review. You will receive your document with Microsoft Word Track Changes and/or comments from your editor. We urge you to check each edit in your document to ensure that you agree with the changes made by your editor. You can “accept” or “reject” edits using the Microsoft “review” options. Your editor may also add comments with suggestions or areas of clarity. You should consider the comments from your editor and make adjustments to your document as suggested. If you have any questions regarding the edits or comments, please contact customerservice@econtentpro.com, additional clarity can be provided.
Can you help me increase or reduce the length of my document?
Your editor can make recommendations in increasing or decreasing the word count of your document, however, it is your responsibility to ensure that the content of your document maintains its integrity. Please indicate your request when uploading your document.
Can I contact my editor with questions after my document is complete?
If you have questions while you are reviewing your document, please contact us at customerservice@econtentpro.com. We will contact your editor with your questions and respond back to you.
What happens if I am not satisfied with the edits on my document?

Scientific and Scholarly Editing

Can I contact my editor directly?
Because eContent Pro International’s scientific and scholarly content editing is conducted on a double-blind basis, offering anonymity to both the client and the editor, their identity cannot be shared. If you have questions for your editor, please contact customerservice@econtentpro.com and our customer service representation can serve as a liaison between yourself and your editor.
How will my document be returned to me?
When the content review and editing is finished, you will receive an email notification containing a link to the completed evaluation form as well as a link to your completed Microsoft Word document with track changes and comments.
Is this review considered transferable or portable?
eContent Pro International® cannot guarantee that a journal editor (or the publisher) will accept the review as part of the peer review process for their journal. It is advised that you consult the Editor-in-Chief of the journal directly once the review and editing has been completed.

Journal Recommendation

Can I submit only a portion of my manuscript for the journal selectors to utilize?
The expert journal selectors utilize all items within the manuscript to ensure the closest, most relevant matches possible. In order for the journal selectors to provide the most useful recommendations, the full manuscript should be provided. Having the title, abstract, body text, headings, reference list along with visual elements such as tables, charts, and images are imperative for the selectors to have a well-rounded understanding of the content within the manuscript. One of the number one reasons that a manuscript is rejected by a journal is due to it being irrelevant to the journal's mission and scope, and as such, the selectors want to make sure that they are taking every item into consideration to improve an author's chances of acceptance.
