English Language Copy Editing
What file types do you accept?
We accept Microsoft Word (.docx) documents to allow use of the Track Changes feature, allowing you to review and accept all changes we make to your document.
What qualifications do your copy editors have?
eContent Pro copy editors are all native English speakers and meet rigorous selection standards and quality control checks. Our copy editors have copy editing certifications as well as master’s or doctorate degrees. Our editors have editorial experience across all subject areas and have completed a wide range of studies. Learn more about them on our Team page.
Do I need to include a Publisher Name, Link to Style/Formatting Guidelines and Formatting Style in my Service Options when I am completing
Although it is not required to enter a Publisher Name we strongly suggest that this information is included so your copy editor is able to complete the job to the best of their ability. Most important to include, however, is the Formatting Style and Link to Style Formatting Guidelines. This information provides the copy editor with all the context they need to adequately prepare your document for final submission.
Can I choose my copy editor?
We will always strive to match your document with the copy editor who is best suited for its contents. If there is an editor who you feel would be best suited for your document or if you were particularly happy with the work completed by a specific editor on a previously completed document, then you can request to have that editor work on your next document. You may mention their name in the "Comments" field of the submission process (subject to availability).
Can I contact my copy editor directly?
Many of our expert copy editors are members of different editorial boards of various prestigious journals and in order to avoid any conflict of interest, their identity cannot always be shared. If you have questions for your copy editor, please contact email@example.com and our customer service representatives can serve as a liaison between yourself and your copy editor.
What types of documents do you edit?
We edit virtually every type of document, including research papers, journal articles, books (drafts, fiction, non-fiction, and reference books included), book chapters, essays, proposals, dissertations, theses, and cover letters.
Can I see an example of the Copy Edited & Proofread work?
Yes. Samples of our copy edited and proofread work on our Samples page.
How quickly will you edit my document?
Most documents will take approximately 2-3 business days to complete (documents under 10,000 words). Expedited delivery options are available with an additional fee. Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information for the completion time of a specific document.
Do you provide a certificate of proofreading?
Yes. With each completed job we offer an editorial certificate certifying that the manuscript has been professionally copy edited for correct English language usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling by a qualified native English-speaking editor. The certificate of completion acknowledges both professional copy editing and professional proofreading services have been conducted for your document.
How will my document be returned to me?
When copy editing is finished, you will receive an email notification containing a link to download your final, copy edited document. The document will be a Microsoft Word file with Track Changes enabled, allowing you to review and accept all changes we make to your document.
We will provide you with two versions of your finalized document. The first will be with the Track Changes visible, showing you where your copy editor made necessary edits. The second version will be with the Track Changes accepted for a cleaner document. This document is labeled as “Accepted Edits.” In this accepted edit version of your finalized document, the comments will still be available for your further review. Prior to submitting your work, we do recommend you review the documents in their entirety.

My work is similar to other previously published work. Can you check my document for instances of potential plagiarism and/or revise, rewrite, or paraphrase my work?
As a service provider to the publishing industry, we take the issue of plagiarism very seriously. As such, our editors will not insert citations, conduct any plagiarism checks, paraphrase, revise, or rewrite verbatim material that has been previously published. They will however, correct any improperly styled citations that are not in the appropriate style required by the publisher (e.g. APA, MLA, etc.). It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that all previously published work in their document has been properly cited and that the document has been run through plagiarism software prior to submitting it for copy editing.
What should I do once my document is returned to me from the editor?
You will receive a notification once your file is complete and ready for your review. You will receive your document with Microsoft Word Track Changes and/or comments from your editor. We urge you to check each edit in your document to ensure that you agree with the changes made by your editor. You can “accept” or “reject” edits using the Microsoft “review” options. Your editor may also add comments with suggestions or areas of clarity. You should consider the comments from your editor and make adjustments to your document as suggested. If you have any questions regarding the edits or comments, please contact email@example.com, additional clarity can be provided.
Can you help me increase or reduce the length of my document?
Your editor can make recommendations in increasing or decreasing the word count of your document, however, it is your responsibility to ensure that the content of your document maintains its integrity. Please indicate your request when uploading your document.
Can I contact my editor with questions after my document is complete?
If you have questions while you are reviewing your document, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will contact your editor with your questions and respond back to you.

Can I submit only a portion of my manuscript for the journal selectors to utilize?
The expert journal selectors utilize all items within the manuscript to ensure the closest, most relevant matches possible. In order for the journal selectors to provide the most useful recommendations, the full manuscript should be provided. Having the title, abstract, body text, headings, reference list along with visual elements such as tables, charts, and images are imperative for the selectors to have a well-rounded understanding of the content within the manuscript. One of the number one reasons that a manuscript is rejected by a journal is due to it being irrelevant to the journal's mission and scope, and as such, the selectors want to make sure that they are taking every item into consideration to improve an author's chances of acceptance.
